Charlotte Acebo Obituary

Charlotte Ann Sullins Acebo, born in Houston, Texas on the 5th of January 1942, passed away peacefully at her home in Houston on Wednesday, the 25th of April 2012, at the age of 70.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many. Charlotte was a graduate of Sam Houston State University and was proud to have been a high school Journalism and English teacher for 31 years, 17 of those at Huntsville High School. Upon her retirement in 1999, Charlotte became a full-time grandmother, her most passionate and beloved role in life. One of her greatest joys was her family and family gatherings, which she enjoyed along with her lifelong passions of cooking great food, writing, reading, and, not to be forgotten- her Houston Rockets.
Her strength, passion, love, caring, will, and stubbornness profoundly touched all those she encountered and words cannot express the impact she had on her family and everyone around her.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her father and mother, Joe Horace and Virginia Sullins; brother, Joe Sullins Jr.; and niece, Michelle Nelson.
Charlotte was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her surviving family members; daughter, Debbie Acebo and son-in-law, Wendel Skolaski daughter, Denise Acebo Hansen and son-in-law, Steve Hansen; grandsons, Parker Williams and Tanner Hansen; step-grandchildren, Robert and Scott Skolaski and Kristen Lounder; sister, Martha Weidenheft; nephews, Michael Nelson, Matthew Sullins, Hank Sullins and Sam Sullins; niece, Sarah Sullins; and countless other family, loved ones, friends, and former students.
The family wishes to acknowledge the love, support and caring friendship given to Charlotte by Ginni Ecklund, Kay Renger, Charlie and Gail Acebo, and Jessica Bogan.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 27th of April, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 28th of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Charlotte's name may directed to the charity of one's choice.

Memories and Condolences
for Charlotte Acebo

Not sure what to say?

Charlotte and I were classmates at Southmayd Elementary School (1948- 1954). She sat in the desk immediately in front of me and I got caught pulling her pigtails. Even though we attended different junior and senior high schools, we remined friends. I took her to her senior prom in 1960.
We were born only four days apart, in the same hospital and called each other on their respective birthdays. I called her on her 50th birthday but lost contact with her after that time.
My condolences go to her family for the loss of a dear person who makes me smile when I think of her.

Ms Ace was my favorite teacher. She put up with a lot from me in Journalism. I was her ace photographer when I came to class! May God bless you during this time.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Your mom was a wonderful teacher and the best Mock Trial coach. I shared many wonderful practices, classes, trips to State and paper-grading sessions with her and remember our times together fondly.

My heart goes out to you all, Debbie, Denise and family. Your Mom was a wonderful lady. Looking at all of the photos made me smile; she was so much fun and lived life to the fullest. I will certainly remember her as being my Sophmore English teacher and much more. I still remember playing on a rare snow day in the yard on Bluebird Lane many years ago. God bless.

Our hearts and our prayers go out to you, Debbie, Denise and other family members. Her memories in your lives will help you in the days ahead. She invested in the lives of each person and each student she came into contact with. I remember the first time I met her I was a little intimidated by her (lol) because she had a way of intensely looking at you that told you she was interested in what you were really thinking....and then she would smile that beautiful smile and I would relax. This loss will be so hard....but all the good times with her will help ease the loss..... Hugs, Andrea Lynch Jenkins (HHS class of 1985)

I am a protege of Mrs. Acebo's. She was my first journalism teacher and encouraged me to remain in the field. Her class was a blast, and I enjoyed how she made learning fun. I lost touch with her when she left Huntsville but went on to become the first black editor of the newspaper, The Hive, before graduating. It was the first of many firsts in my career as a writer, editor, and publisher. I have tried to perpetuate Mrs. Acebo's legacy as I mentor other youth. She has been the unheralded wind beneath my wings, and I will always carry a part of Mrs. Acebo within me. Sweet dreams, Mrs. Acebo!!!
