Words can't even begin to express how saddened I am by your loss. Having known you for a long time, in my mind I can picture a little blond boy, but what an outstanding young man he became. My prayers go out to Ian's entire family for this terrible loss. Ian was a fine young man and put himself in considerable harm's way in service to this country. Many thanks to him for that and the sacrifice of his family on behalf of all of us. I still see his 12-year old face in my mind's eye, all full of life and mischief along with his best friend, Andy Cullather--my nephew. May God's healing grace wash over you all.

Ian, thank you for everything you gave us, including, but not limited to, your selfless service to our country and your true friendship. You will be missed more than words can say. My prayers and love to your family.
