John Rice Obituary

John Rice
1948-2016
John L. Rice was born December 25, 1948, to Hoyt and Colleen Rice, of Pampa, TX. The family later moved to Houston, where John graduated from Sterling High School, in 1967. He was an accomplished athlete; after High School, he was a running back at the University of Texas-El Paso and University of Central Oklahoma. John always had his teammates, family and friends back, both on and off the field. He later served in the United States Army in Giessen, Germany, where he met and married his wife, Tatjana Przybyla. The couple later moved to Houston, where they had their daughter, Michelle Renee Rice. John and his daughter shared a love for horses and healing. They, along with his grandchildren, Kaiser and Aliyah Atiqi, of Katy, founded Faith, Hope & Horses, with the mission to introduce special needs children and people struggling with ailments, to horses. On November 23, at the hour of grace, while peacefully napping, John's train to Heaven arrived. He is proudly being honored at a Memorial Service on December 18, 2016, 3:00PM, at Katy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's honor to Faith, Hope & Horses, 2142 CR 201, Sargent, TX 77414.

I was honored to have gone to Ross Sterling High School with John. He was a great athlete and a nice man. As sports editor of the year book I got to know him well. He was warm and friendly. He was modest. He was a lot of fun. I'm so sad to see that he has left us. He had a wonderful life
