Like so many others, I feel a deep sense of loss at Ross's passing. I can thank Liberty Fund of Indianapolis, IND for the opportunity to meet and appreciate Ross's keen intellect, wit, and unmatched sense of playfulness about life and its various challenges.
I have very fond memories of our last Liberty Fund together in San Diego in June, 2005 where he did a superlative job leading discussions on liberty during the epoch of the French Revolution. As always, he sparkled with wit and bristled with energy, which made the news of his cancer all the more shocking and terribly sad when I received it last fall.
Reading the comments of some of his former students has made me, once again, very melancholy at his passing, but pleased to see that he made such a positive difference in so many lives and was so completely respected by all who knew him. I can only join others in singing his praises. As so many others have said, he will be sorely missed. He understood the art of friendship like few others I have known.
