My relationship with Walter Scarborough began with an unpleasant telephone conversation, a stern rebuke and then overnight he became my employer, inspiration and a genuine friend. Walter was an extraordinary individual beyond talented yet he recognized talent in others, opened doors and provided opportunities that otherwise might have gone unobserved

Walter was larger than life. Sorry to hear that he has passed on to the next one.

I just learned of Walter's passing, five months ago. He was truly an icon in my life even after not seeing him in 40 years. I was a naïve kid from Kentucky, fresh out of school with no experience and could not find Houston on a map. Traveling around the country the word was Houston had the best chance for a job, which led me to 3100 W. Alabama. Walter always had a flair for the dramatic and sizing up the entry with all the building renderings I expected an older distinguished gentleman in a suit. Instead there was 34 yr. old Walter with flowing reddish hair in his oversized “private” office wearing worn jeans and tennis shoes, feet on the desk talking on the phone with that signature booming voice. I guess a person's first real job always holds a special place (assuming it was a good experience) and I have a couple years' worth of memories and stories that will be with me forever. My life is better having shared a little part of it with Walter, may he Rest in Peace.

To a very dear friend and brillant Cherokee man and relative. He will be missed daily but always remembered with live and laughter. May he soar to new heights on the wings of eagles and always bring us wisdom and joy!
