Frank, I didn't know your dad but I know his son. Howard must have been a heck of man of fine values. RIP.

As a child, I grew up in Lamont and our backyard fence was shared with Howard Thurston's backyard. I have many fond memories of playing at the Thurston residence with Frankie and being treated to lunch from time to time by Mrs. Thurston. When I later became a member of the Sheriff's Office I had the pleasure to work with Howard briefly at the end of his career. I always admired Sgt. Thurston, he was a good man. My condolences to the Thurston family.

With deepest sympathies to the Howard Thurston family. I had the privilege of working with Howard at the Lamont Sub-station and learned a lot from his vast experience. We were neighbors & enjoyed the company of Howard, Lou Ann and Frankie, especially at the Lamont Little League baseball games. He used his photography skills to take individual pictures of my son Bryan's team, which the kids loved. He made them feel like Major League baseball players. He was a lot of fun to be around & no, I did not have anything to do with his favorite toy, a Honda 90 ending up on top of the Lamont Jail holding cell. LOL. It was our way at the sub-station of letting him know he was liked.
I wanted to share this story with the Thurston family, in hopes of turning sadness into a pleasant memory. After all, memories are windows into the past, which will keep Howard alive and with us.
Farewell, Sarge. Our law enforcement family has lost another member of the Band of Brothers of Law Enforcement. Your End of Watch: 01 June 2013 will be remembered.
