I know after reading this article that my dear friend Hugh has been gone since 2005 but to me he just passed away 5 minutes ago. All this time I have been picturing him alive and well and being a big part of the recovery in Lake View. He loved his house there and made a lot of the modifications to the house himself. Even though there was a big age difference between us I never felt it - he had such a young spirit and such an open curious mind. We worked on many creative projects and the work was always wonderful and always felt more like play than work. I am truly sorry for his loss to the community and his large family. I hope his previous wife and young daughter are doing well and that his memory is not over shadowed by the tragic ending of such a extremely kind and talented gentle man. Thinking of you Hugh! Love, Lynne

Hugh may be gone but he is not forgotten. Just today I was remembering what a kind man he was and the good times we shared with him, his family, and the other family members, past and present. I hope the entire Ricks family are well and still enjoying those wonderful crawfish boils. God Bless.

I was Cindy & Lorena's teacher in high school. I didn't know Hugh, personally, but I have the Water Godess & Pelican posters from the Worlds Fair and I loved his work. I was sorry to learn of his death these years later. I also lost my sister-in-law to medical complications of Hurricane Katrina. My heart goes out to the family. I know this was hard for all of you.

Dear Patrick, Jan and all, My heart was sickened when I ran into Patrick near his barber shop in downtown N.O. in 2006 and learned of Hugh's death pursuant to the storm. I will always prize my little postcard size World's Fair poster that he autographed for me. Oh those days we all had together back at CCBC. His art is adorning our eventual home now. I miss and love you Jan and kids. God bless you, Lynn Bigham
