Dan C. Whitsett, Jr. died peacefully at home in Huntsville, Alabama, early Wednesday morning. He was 78 years old. Dan was born in Selma, Alabama to Julia Shell Whitsett and The Rev. Dr. Dan C. Whitsett, Sr. He began a life-long interest of communication and technology as a student at The University of Alabama where he also pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated in 1962 and started a career in radio and television that led him to serve as Vice President of WAAY-TV for 37 years. He was a member of the Huntsville Rotary Club and served as director of many civic, charitable, and business organizations in North Alabama. His enjoyment of music, enthusiasm for humor, and delight in pets and roses were hallmarks of his life and personality. But his deepest pride and joy was clearly evident in his love of his wife and children. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and "Brother" Dan Whitsett, his sister, Margaret Abrames; and his beautiful daughter, Gavin Whitsett Hooker. He is survived by his loving and lovely wife of over 52 years, Margaret Anne Little Whitsett; brother, Stan Whitsett (Fredese); son, Daniel C. Whitsett, III (Susanna); son-in-law, Jason Hooker; grandchildren, Will Hooker, Margaret Anne Hooker, Ann Mosely Whitsett, Evie Whitsett, Susie Whitsett and many extended family members, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 14 at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund 120 Greene St SE, Huntsville, AL 35801. (www.laughlinservice.com)

Margaret Anne, Danny and all the family,
Dan's passing fills us with such bittersweet thoughts and memories. He was such a gentle, thoughtful, KIND soul, that grieves us to think we won't see him again....but, such a devout Christian that there's that certainty that we WILL see him again in eternity.
Our thought and prayers of consolation are with y'all in this time.
