Albert Samuel Beaver
1935 ~ 2014
Albert Samuel Beaver, 78, passed away on February 27, 2014 in Eugene, Oregon following heart surgery. Born in Pennsylvania on September 6, 1935, Al served in the Army stationed in Europe and in a counter-intelligence unit stationed in Ethiopia during the 1950s. Al married, had a daughter, and worked in Pennsylvania and across the United States as a farm hand, tree trimmer, truck driver, miner and prospector. For many years he lived in and around Chico, California, but most recently retired in Oregon, first in Eugene and then in Bandon. He spent his winters on the Oregon Coast mushroom hunting, beach combing, and huckleberry harvesting from Florence to Gold Beach. Al spent his summers with friends in the Owyhee Mountains of Idaho, near Silver City. He loved the outdoors, and stayed active exploring all the history and rocks and minerals the area has to offer. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends there, especially his friend, Tennessee, to whom he referred as the son he never had. Always generous with anything he had, he shared his many stories and vast knowledge, and would frequently leave little gifts for his friends in their camps. His last months were spent lovingly clearing out an area at Bullard's Beach in Oregon. Al will be remembered with love by all who knew him as a great friend and a warm, generous person. Burial will be in Roseburg National Cemetery, Roseburg, Oregon. Remembrances can be made through kindnesses to others less fortunate.

Al, you had a good heart and many friends. I'll miss your smile and stories of your experiences. I'll miss your unexpected visits with pounds and pounds of mushrooms or huckleberries, rocks and driftwood; the treasures we researched on the internet, the mushrooms we tried to identify; the meals we shared. And I'll regret the mushroom hunting trip we never had. As I go through your things, my dogs look for you at the gate and front door, looking for you to rile them up for a bit of fun. Good bye Al, and God bless you.

Al, you will be greatly missed. We looked forward to seeing you each summer in Silver. I loved our time we spent together this last summer. I looked forward to seeing your happy face each day. Our hours of talking and sharing. You said I was like a daughter to you, that was a compliment. I felt the same way about you my dear friend. Mike will miss all the treats you shared with him too! I will cherish all the little gifts you gave to me over the years. I will always remember you with love in my heart. Silver and Dewey will never be the same without you. You were loved more than you know.
