Dear Becky, As a friend of your dad, Carl, I pay my deepest respects to both Mark and your Mom. When the unthinkable happens, we only have one source left to rely on...God. May He carrying you for as long as needed until a new, hopeful life is brought into light. My sincere and deepest sympathies,
Dear Rebecca, after receiving your email today Steve and I are in a state of shock. We will have you, your family and Mark's family in our prayers. May God see through these difficult times.
Steve and Donna Kumorek
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark once when visiting Steve. As Steve said, they are your family. I know my brother, and he doesn't say anything he doesn't mean. We lost our own brother in the line of duty, and the pain is something unbelievable, and indescribable to anyone who has not experienced it. On behalf of my entire family, we sorry for your family's loss. Take comfort and solace in his brothers - they will always be there for you. Always. All of you, family and Jumper brothers, are in my prayers.
Rebecca, My heart breaks for you, your family and Mark's family at this time. Praying that God will give you strength and great comfort now and in the days to come. I love you very much, and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you day and night. With my love,
My heart and thoughts go out to Mark's family and friends. To Pam and Tom: I just heard the news about Mark and am so sorry for this heartbreaking loss.
Dearest Pam and Tom, Rich and I are so saddened for your loss of Mark. He was such a adventurer. I always thought of him whenever there was a wild fire out west. Find comfort in his life and all of your precious memories. Our prayers are with you.
Burbecca ... my thoughts are with you.
The Grageville Smokejumpers wish to express or sincere condolences to the Urban Family and to the Smokejumper Community.
I had the privilege to get to know Mark over the last several off-seasons (Oct-Mar). I trained Mark at the CrossFit gym where he and other wildland firefighters worked out. He was a silent leader and he was respected through his example of hard work and never-quit attitude. He inspired and motivated others around him. He is a great man and he will be missed.
My deepest and sincerest condolences to his wife, parents, and friends.
Mark was a true friend, fellow fireman and a inspiration to anybody that was blessed to be in his presence. I will miss Mark deeply but will always do something special to keep Marks legacy alive. I will miss our conversations about bikes, music, fire and life...
To all Mark's Loved Ones, I had the pleasure of being a fellow firefighter with Mark in both Colorado and Idaho this summer. Although technically his supervisor for two wildland fires, he needed no supervision. Mark possessed the qualities necessary to complete whatever assignments he was given with little direction and in a way that fostered respect and friendship. Although I was only given a short time to know and work with Mark I thoroughly enjoyed him and will miss him greatly. I share your grief in the loss of Mark.
To Becca, the Urban and Ohlin Families...many memories of fun times with Mark in high school. Please take comfort in knowing the entire East Longmeadow community grieves with you. Mark was an exceptional human being. Thoughts and prayers to all of you during this difficult time.
To Rebecca, the Urban and Ohlin families, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mark. My memories of him are that of a really good man, a kind soul. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers and those of my family are with you.
Mark T Urban you enriched our lives with your gentle presence, enduring love, and humility. You were my husbands confidant and wise yeti, guiding him through tough times. Thank you. You will forever be missed.
Sometimes God will take a soul home with him at the height of perfection and although we can't understand the purpose, we need to accept that the timing itself, in some way, will bless others. This acceptance will not assuage the pain we feel now, but eventually, it will be revealed to us. This man truly gave his all for the protection of others--there can be no higher calling.
DEAR REBECCA AND FAMILY WE SEND OUT OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY TO ALL OF YOU. BRUCE AND I FEEL HONORED TO HAVE MET MARK HE WAS SUCH A HUMBLE PERSON. HE WAS BRAVE IN ALL HIS WORK, AND A TRUE HERO. HE SO LOVED YOU REBECCA IN THAT HOLD ON TIGHT TO ALL YOUR SPECIAL TIMES TOGETHER. LOVE TO ALL OF YOU DONNA AND BRUCE

Dear Tom and Pamela,
Although it is many years since Tom and I departed ways due to our government service work and retirements (Westover/AFPRO), today my heart is heavy regarding the lost of your son Mark. I give you all my thoughts and prayers and condolences. We as parents never want to lose our children, but sometimes it must be.
Your Son led a noble life, both in service to his country, and service to the actual lands we walk upon each day;to protect, serve and maintain our precious country.
To his wife Rebecca and sister Sara I also want you to know we members of this USA are proud of the life your husband and brother led. Our forest fighter "smoke jumpers" are a special lot in life.
Hoping Mark's last jump was with and on the wings of an eagle, and more so an angel. With the Air National Guard in his blood so to speak, I also hope his "final flight" was intended to only lead him into a more peace filled new life.
I salute Mark in so many ways, may that "jumper" be at peace.

To the family: May you be comforted by the loving memories that you share with family and friends of the self-sacrificing life that Mark led. He gave the best of himself for others. "By this we have come to know love, because that one surrendered his soul for us, and we are under obligation to surrender our souls for our brothers." 1 John 3:16
Dear Rebecca and family;
We were very saddened to hear about Mark's passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Scott, Colleen, Jess and Kate
Lori, Megan, and I are so sorry for your loss. We are keeping the family in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers.
A lasting impression to all of us that knew him. I looked forward to meeting up with him on the road to catch up on bikes and races. It was a bonus if we were on the same load or if he was spotting. Deepest sympathies to Rebecca and family.
My heart breaks for you! What a tragic loss for you with Mark's totally unexpected death doing what he loved to do, but this time on the field of practice. I will remember him through you as a dedicated fire fighter who led a brigade of fellow fire fighters to save the Baker Creek historical cabins during August's fire rampage of the Hailey/Ketchum Idaho community. I cannot understand the why or wherewithal of this accident that took the life of such a dedicated professional to saving the lives of others. I only know that all I can do is to hold you and Mark's family and friends in my prayers as you endure the loss of his presence in your lives. I am so saddened for you all.
I had the honor of working with Mark several times in the last five years. He was a true professional who loved his job. He had always had great smile and kind word. My heart goes out to you all,
Our condolences to the Urban family on the loss of their son, and our deepest sympathy to Rebecca on the loss of your husband and best friend. May all the beautiful memories you shared together help to get you through this most difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Condolences to the family of Mark Urban on the sudden loss of a beloved family member. Mark lost his life doing what he loved to do, parachuting into the back country to suppress wildfires. He was a "bro" to all smokejumpers and will be remembered as a hero. We all grieve at losing a member of our family. Don Haugo, Missoula Smokejumper (1961-1968)
Even in high school Mark knew who he was and based on the tributes I have read he did not change. Thoughts and prayers to his family and close friends. Rest in Peace Mark.
Rebecca. I am saddened with your loss. Your dad, my friend, often spoke of you and Mark. My deepest condolences.
