Dear Jack - Thanks for everything. Thanks for teaching me how to work with elected officials, some of whom were generous and wise, some who weren't. Thanks for teaching me how to leave a meeting, how to assert a position and take the offensive. Thanks for being a friend, mentor, coach, and thanks for hiring me. I know Caswell was doing the hiring but you were doing the teaching in the political world. Great job. And you were so much fun. God speed.

It's hard to hone what I would say about Jack who was a friend and a mentor for many years. He was an extrovert focused on the other person as not all extroverts are. He was overtly upbeat and positive because in the big scheme of things there was no reason not to be. A couple new terms. Lavinesque... Seeing the good in whatever is. To Lavin (lavining)... To move from gathering to gathering, experience to experience, with a smile and obvious enjoyment. I hope to be more lavinesque as I Lavin through life.

Alan and Laura Shealy will miss Jack's wonderful smile, friendly greeting and positive spirit as we frequently met him hiking to Table Rock.

Jack's smile, enthusiasm and positive energy was felt by all in his presence. May we all carry a bit of Jack forward in our efforts to help make the world a better place.

To the family of Jack. My husband has been a Cancer patient at MSTI for the past three years. Words cannot express our gratitude for Sweet Smiling Jack. He was a bright light during a dark time in our lives. He was always there with a smile and a coke, and a joke…which eased the pain and the boredom of those dreaded treatments. How blessed we feel to have been helped along our life's journey by this sweet man. We know he is an angel who has earned his wings. Our prayers are with your family at this difficult time. He is loved and missed.
