Tom, Charissa and family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Losing a parent is such a monumental point of change in our lives. We realize that we are now the ones everyone looks to. When we lose our mothers we realize they were with us from inception until their passing. We have always looked to and watched them. Now we are the strength and support everyone hopes to find. As we fill those shoes, we realize how much we depended on our moms. We realize how much comfort and strength we received in just knowing they were with us. When we have great love and fellowship, we have great loss and sorrow in its passing. I know nothing can ease the loss of your mother and its permanence, but nothing can diminish the greatness and permanence of her love for you. Remember and cherish the fact that you have the privelege of being called her "son" and were the recipient of her love as a mother. Only 2 others on this planet have that incredible privelege.

I want to commend Tomas, Miguel, and Juan for your touching tributes to Barbara at yesterday's service. Barbara would have been so proud of all of your comments because you have obviously learned what she taught. May God bless all of you and your family.

Dear Mercer & Cortes Families,

Although I never had the privilege of knowing Baba, her Brother Jim was my Classmate at Washington High School in Massillon; and if Baba had anything to do with molding the character of her Brother, I'm most thankful for her having done so.

Barbara was definitely one of God's angels. She taught me so much as we worked side by side rasing my young family. She was in our daily lives for over ten years and was loved so much, she was our family. She loved the Lord and I am at peace knowing she is with Jesus and suffering no more. Tomas, Miguel, and Juan she loved you boys so much and she was very proud of each of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
All our love,
Will and Maxine Logan

Mama Cortes was always good to me and the other Buds - just usually shaking her head followed by an "oh lord" after one of our late night escapades in Tigertown!

Barbara (Baba) played a very important part in my life. She was greatly involved in my life as a young child, remaining with us even after I terrified her at one point with my screaming. She stayed in contact with us, showing that she still cared. She always loved me and my siblings and always reminded each one of us how much she loved us. I am so thankful for the role that she played in my life. While I am saddened not to be able to see her now, I am so thankful that she is finally free and not suffering. Many prayers to her family.
