To Margie and family ... I am so sorry for your loss..
April 24, 2014
Dan was an integral member of a group of friends that I palled around with during my high school years and until I left Indianapolis in 1962. I don't recall when and how I first met Dan but I am certain that it had to do with our group getting together for playing basketball, going somewhere with any one who had a car, or just hanging out. The question "What do you want to do today?" returns to my memory. We had fun focusing on laughter and humor and away from being mean or vicious. During those years I gained some of the best memories of my life.
None of us escaped tragedies in our lives and Dan was no exception. I remember when Dan's father died while we were still in High School. I also remember the death of his first wife several years later. I was saddened by those events but very impressed with the manner in which Dan handled the impact of those tragedies.
Dan was kind enough to accept my request that he be a part of our wedding ceremony in 1961.
I lost track of Dan for a few years in the mid to late "60s until I made contact with his mother to find out how he was doing. She was kind enough to exchange Christmas cards for many years with me, updating me on Dan's continued march toward the fulfillment of his dreams.
Dan and I were finally able to personally meet again, a few years ago and I was pleased to observe that the only major change in Dan was physical. He was easily recognizable by his smile, pleasant demeanor and the way he answered a serious question (and I rarely ask many of those) with a pause followed by a thoughtful measured response. I was pleased to hear about his wife, Margie, the successes and growth of his family and that he was enjoying his life.
I will miss Dan, but I am grateful that I had the opportunity to share portions of my life with a man of his character, sense of humor and gentle demeanor. I will always be grateful to be able to refer to his as my friend.
Condolences and Prayers to Margie and the family.
May God grant you eternal peace, old friend.

David/Nicole,

Heard about your loss through the grapevine and wanted to express my condolences. I have contributed to the Autism Speaks in his honor.

Miss everyone a lot, would be there if I could.
