Robert Joseph "Bob" Ash
87, went peacefully into Heaven on May 12, 2014. Bob was born on September 14, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to Ralph and Sylvania (Bryan) Ash. After serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Japan and the Philippines, he married Betty Louise Sedlak, on February 14, 1950 in Sedalia, Missouri.
Bob had a successful 35-year career in the rail industry with the Missouri Pacific-Union Pacific Railroads. Bob's work took him and his family to many locations around the country, and he retired in 1985 after being a Director of Sales Administration.
Bob was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, generous friend, and devout Catholic. His family and friends will miss his ever-present kindness, and his mischievous sense of humor. A lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Bob was an active member of Saints Francis and Clare Parish, a member of the Indianapolis Transportation Club, and an avid weather-watcher for Channel 6 News.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty; daughters, Nancy Ash-Shofner (Kay Shofner) and Carol Ash (Joe Egan); son-in-law, Paul Jansen (Barb Millis); sister, Mary Lou Behen; grandchildren, Jennifer Jansen, John (Shannon) Jansen, Julie (Aaron) Wypyszynski, Bobby Egan, Tulley Shofner, and Elizabeth Egan; and great-grandchildren, Kerrigan Jansen, Cormac Jansen, and Walter Wypyszynski. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, (Ken); sister, (Rosemary); daughters, (Mary Anne Jansen and Dianne Ash), and son (David Ash).
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. The Rite of Christian Burial will be held at Saints Francis and Clare Parish at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16.
