I never knew my biological grandfather, but Hal was the epitome of what I wanted my grandfather to be - respectable, caring and a good human being. The world will really miss him. I know I will.

I first met Hal through my dad, Fred Johnston, who were not only business partners but dear friends. Hal was such an amazing and incredible person! He had such a beautiful attitude and outlook on life. I always saw him with a smile on his face. I will miss him.

Hal was a special person and will always be remembered.

Hal was a friend and early mentor at Eli Lilly. He was a very decent and caring man who will be missed but not forgotten. May it be of some small comfort to his family now, to know that his friends and associates share in their loss and offer sympathy.

Though I never met Hal in person, I enjoyed the brief discussions over the phone, and was impressed with his friendliness. I can see why my father enjoyed being in partnership with him. He has a very interesting biography! - Obviously he was very service oriented.
