Formerly a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, IN, she and Doug were married in 1946 and celebrated 52 years of marriage before he passed away. She moved to Elkhart in 2010 to be closer to her two daughters.
She was born second of three daughters to Alva and Emma Craig and is survived by her younger sister, Carolyn Bernard of Houston, Tx. A niece, M. Christine Koerner, lives in Indianapolis IN.
She is survived by her 6 children: C. Lynn Hawk (Lee) of Elkhart; B. Kay Bontrager-Stout (Richard) of Elkhart, Gary D. Thompson (Nancy) of Utah, David O. Thompson (Gail) of Kalamazoo, MI, Neil C. Always active in gardening, with children helping, vegetables were canned for winter and flowers were brought inside to grace the home. What ever work she did, she infused daily chores with her excellent aesthetic sense, bringing a sense of beauty into the achievement. Her green thumb produced spectacular violets and indoor lilies. When her children became older, she worked many years in Indianapolis as a Real Estate Agent for several Brokers until her retirement at age 77. She was active in several Bridge Clubs and played in Duplicate Bridge Clubs locally. She was a lively bidder, competitive, and always ready for the next hand to be dealt. Upon transitioning to live in Elkhart in 2010, she continued to play Bridge with her daughters and friends.
She modeled her belief that family was important by her excellent meals and a clean home for children to grow in. She will be remembered as a very loving mother .
