He was the GREATEST !!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck Tanner at several memorabilia shows. What a class individual he was who epitomized eternal optimism and patience. Everyone should be so lucky. Now he'll be joining Willie "Pops" Stargell and Big Jim Bibby to continue a heavenly version of "We Are Family."

Rest in peace, Chuck. I felt so honored to have made your acquaintance in the time you were here.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for you as a Braves fan. Thinking of you and your family.

I am a 53-year-old man in tears right now--we've lost a good baseball man--but an even better man in life. Chuck Tanner represents Pirate baseball--and also how to be a good man. God be with him...he will never be replaced.

I never met Chuck Tanner, but he will always live in my heart as a Pittsburgh Pirate. I loved him then and will always love him. The 79 Pirates were awesome because of him and players like Willie Stargel. I only wish I could have met him. We have truly lost a great man.

Tremendous memories of Chuck as a manager but an even greater memory of the day in 2005 when he and Jim Leyland autographed a ball for my son who was then eight years old

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Tanner's passing. Although I am not a Pirates fan per sey I am a fan of baseball and had great respect for him and the 1979 Pirates. May God comfort his family...
