To the family: May the comfort from family and friends strengthen you during this difficult time, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

It's been months now since your loss and life goes on whether you like it or not. I just want you to know there are those still thinking about you and concerned for how you are doing. I am a neighbor in Redbridge and drive by your house every day. I think of you often.

Sgt. Dunakin was one of the nicest and most responsive police officers I know. He and three of his fellow motorcycle officers worked diligently to ticket people who were running the STOP sign in my neighborhood. I remembered noting down in my file of traffic contacts what a nice fellow he was. He was very responsive and even phoned me to follow up a few times. My thoughts and prayers to his family and fellow officers.

I had the pleasure of knowing Mark for the past 7 years while working at the restaurant where they ate almost daily! I will miss him, he was a great man..always funny and always sweet to me. I am so sorry for your loss.

Thanks Mark for being one of OPD's finest. I first met you when you volunteered to be a role player when I was in the police academy. And yes, I remember you played a passive drunk person that I had to take into custody. Your role was to wrap your arms around a pole, and I had to use pain compliance so that you would loosen your grip, and I could handcuff you. You almost did not say "uncle" in time, and I almost broke your finger...I will never forget that.

But mostly, I remember what a nice person you were and well respected by everyone. I am so very sorry that this tragic event had to happen, my thoughts are with your family, especially your wife, and 3 children.

As you may be aware we also have lost three brave officers. We the public can never repay brave men like Mark for everything he has done. God bless and keep your entire family and the family of all police officers.
