Sondra Tate passed away on March 11, 2015 at the age of 85, peacefully, in her home in Oscoda.
Sondra was born in 1929 to Mabel and Neal Pilcher in Detroit. Her family moved to Oscoda in 1945, where she met her future husband, Harry Patrick Tate.
She graduated from Oscoda High School, attended Central Michigan University and worked at the Detroit News. Pat and Sondra Tate were married in Detroit in 1951.
When Pat was offered a teaching and coaching position at Oscoda High School, Sondra and Pat moved to Oscoda. Sondra worked as a teacher's aide and was a substitute teacher in the elementary schools for 20 years and was beloved by her students.
After retirement, Sondra and Pat enjoyed vacationing in Florida and visiting their three grandchildren.
Preceded in death by Pat in 2011, Sondra will be greatly missed by her family: her children, Kimberly Tate (Bob Brzezowski) and Kevin Tate; her grandchildren, Kelly Tate (Mathew Goldberg), Van Tate and Mary Tate; and her great grandson, Abel Samuel Goldberg.
The love of Sonnie (as she was known to her grandchildren) for her family brightened her life. She loved reading, planting flowers, making the holidays lovely and learning about other cultures. Her family treasures their many beautiful memories of her and they will miss her dearly.

We miss Sonnie so much, and we're so lucky that we have so many beautiful memories of her. She was a wonderful grandmother, and we're so glad that she was ours.

Kim, I just heard about your Mom. I was thinking about the times our families shared, including the trips to Mackinaw and especially the time we canoed from Cooke Dam and camped overnight. It always struck me as funny because Sondra or Maxine were not big fans of "roughing it". How fortunate we were to have the parents we had.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember as a child our parents getting together and I know they considered them great friends. I have you all in my thoughts and prayers.
