James R. Ennis Jr. James R. Ennis Jr., passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018 in Beaufort, SC, just a few days before his 85th birthday. He had been ill for several weeks following a fall at his home. A native of Elizabeth, NJ, Jim attended St. Genevieve School, where he met his future wife Patricia in the second grade. In 1951, he graduated from Regis High School in Manhattan. He was an outstanding athlete on the basketball team and a class officer for four years. Jim graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from Villanova University in 1956. After a stint with the Army Corps of Engineers, he began a career with Turner Construction that lasted thirty-five years. Jim commuted into NY from Cranford, NJ for several years; his primary project was the McGraw Hill Building on 6th Avenue. In 1973, he was transferred with his family to Columbus, Ohio, where his work on One and Three Nationwide Plaza and the American Electric Power headquarters, among other projects, transformed the Columbus skyline. Although Jim never lost his NY accent, he loved living in Columbus, raising his family adjacent to the Ohio State University and being part of the Newman Center on campus. He often said that moving to Columbus was one of the best decisions he ever made. Jim and Pat were fans of football and the theater, and their hobby was visiting national parks across the country. In retirement Jim and Pat moved to Bluffton, SC, where they enjoyed many years of fun and activities while residing in Sun City. As a member of both the Bird Watchers and Woodworkers clubs, Jim built bluebird nest boxes and installed them throughout The community. He also volunteered his time and talent with Habitat for Humanity. Jim leaves behind a legacy of integrity, faith, love and laughter. Survivors include his dear wife, Patricia Savage Ennis, who sadly died a few weeks after her husband; his children and their spouses, James III, MaryPat and Wes, Thomas and Julie, and Brian; grandchildren, Declan and Adele; siblings, Margaret Meyer and Michael Ennis and his wife, MaryAlice; and brother-in-law, Terrence Savage and his wife, Lillian. Jim was pre-deceased by his brother Robert in October 2017.
