John Dennis Obituary

John Henry Dennis, of Jackson went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the age of 66. He was the son of Henry A. and Wanda M. (Unterkircher) Dennis born October 25, 1946 in Jackson, MI. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon (Garrett) Dennis; two daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Donnelly, and Kathy Wollet (Andy Dodd); two grandchildren, Melanie (Michael) Throop, and Brayden Wollet; three great-grandchildren, Dakota, Alexa and Devin; one brother, William (Roberta) Dennis; mother-in-law, Kathryn Garrett; sister-in-law, Jennifer Helms; nephew, Evan Garrett; niece, Nicole Helms; cousins, Joyce Smoyer, Meridith Drennan, and Patty Shaw; special buddy, his cat Cindy. John was preceded in by his parents; father-in-law, Ralph Garrett. John graduated from East Jackson High School in 1964; He worked for Teer-Wickwire which became Simpson Industries for 41 years as a maintenance man. After they closed he worked for First Presbyterian Church Jackson as a sexton for five years. He served in the 1461st Transportation Unit of the National Guard for six years, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was activated the summer of 1967 for the Detroit Riots. John was a avid fisherman and loved the Detroit Tigers. He was a devoted husband, father, and grand-father. His family was the most important thing to him. He had a great sense of humor that prevailed through his 10 year battle with cancer. The family wishes to thank Allegiance Home Health Care nurses, Sarah W. and Kathy K., the 7th floor staff at Allegiance Health, and Dr. Farha, and Dr. Stephen Arntz. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held today, April 16, 2013 at the WATSON FUNERAL CHAPEL at 11:00 AM, Nicole Helms officiating. Memorial contributions for those who wish may be made to his grandson Brayden Wollet C/O Citizens Bank any branch. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. J. L. This July will be 47 years since John and I served in basic training together at Ft. Leonard Wood. Being that long ago, seems impossible.
May our Heavenly Father take care of the family, friends and people who loved John and give them peace and understanding. May John's wonderful memories live on, and give everyone comfort.

Brother Bill and family, I was sorry to hear of the loss of John. I had not seen him for years and years but he was an acquaintance and the brother of Bill with whom I played ball with during our teenage years.
Our dads also used to deer hunt together many years ago which makes us family friends of long history.
