Jan Wiener was my teacher in Prague, in my Erasmus year. He was trully an inspiration and a great storyteller. I will always remember his classes.

I am VERY sad of heart to have learned just a few minutes ago of this sad news! I was researching some German History tonight as part of an ongoing effort to understand this world and my place in it. Specifically, I wanted to learn more about Reinhard Heydrich, a high-level leader in Germany's Third Reich. I recalled that my History Teacher at Windsor Mountain School in Lenox, MA had written a book on his assassination while I was there. Upon searching the Web for this book I came upon this dreadful news! I recall with fond memories his Gymnastics Class at WMS, and from this experience along with all my other experiences with this most remarkable human being, I must take this opportunity to thank him for the wisdom I have gained from metaphorically climbing upon his shoulders to see just a little further into this universe and
for poignant lessons on persevering with resolution and steel heart at whatever goals I may wish to reach. I attended both the 1996 and the 2006 WMS Reunions. I arrived on my bicycle at Lenox from Boston in 2006 expecting to come up behind and tap him on the shoulder and say,"I'm here, Gerdi!" Unfortunately, he did not make it to Lenox for the 2006 WMS Reunion, so I never got the chance to reconnect and discuss my ongoing exploration of history and Social Science in general! It's been a hard week for me, learning of Gerdi"s death a year or so after that fact AND of the death of Steve Jobs, one of the greatest visionary geniuses and benefactors in, my opinion, in human history.

With this, I humbly extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him in life!

I have viewed the film Fighter many times and each time learn something new. He and his friend Arnost Lustig were exceptional and endearing and both, of course, were heroes. I found myself "falling in love" with them. I have told friends about the film and how unique and human it really is.

I was just thinking of Jan today as I started working on entering historical info for Terezin. I will remember his class in Prague like no other and especially the privilege of living in an adjacent apartment to he and Zuzana. I still think it is amazing that someone as remarkable as Jan existed.

All who knew Jan were truly blessed. Jan was not only an inspiration for my life, but was the best teacher I ever had. You are a true hero Jan, in every sense of the word. My heart goes ou to Suzanna, and the rest of the wiener family.

I didn't know him personally... only through the documentary "Fighter" which I now own. His decency and perseverance are inspiring and make me thankful that their were such human beings alive during such turbulent times. Michael Rosato

I am so deeply saddened to hear this news. Jan, we will miss you, but you will never be forgotten. I'm thankful to have spent Thanksgiving 2005 with you and Zuzana in Prague and I have thought of you every Thanksgiving since.

Oh, I am so sad... so sad. Yet I feel privileged to have know such a remarkable man. After all Jan has been through - the unthinkable horrors - the moments of great fear - the sorrows - oh, the pain and suffering; yet Jan could still take time to share a few kind words with ordinary people, like myself and make a moment beautiful. Jan has been my model of a hero. Jan always seemed to have the time to talk and to listen. In my mind, Jan stands tall; as that tall, handsome man who shined warmth, kindness, while holding an unwavering strength of conviction. Jan, The Fighter, you will be remembered as an inspiration to us all. We must never forget and must carry on the fight against tyranny and oppression. And to Suzanna, please, I wish I could be there with you to express my sorrow. I am with you in spirit and here for you in all ways.
