MAY YOUR MEMORY BE ETERNAL!
October 15, 2010
My thoughts are with Jennifer and her family right now. She seemed like a smart, strong, & beautiful woman. RIP, Jennifer. I admire Jennifer for having the strength to be on Survivor, and for fighting breast cancer as hard as she did. Each October, I reflect on all the women I've known who have survived or died from breast cancer. And it seems way too many. My mother's a breast cancer survivor since 1999. My aunt's a breast cancer survivor. My mother's best friend is a breast cancer survivor. When I was in Graduate School, I had a co-worker who was dealing with breast cancer. The mother of an acquaintance died of breast cancer last year at a young age. A girl I know from my high school years is a breast cancer survivor. My favorite Latin American singer/musician, Soraya, died of breast cancer at age 37. I enjoy listening to Soraya's CDs and am currently reading her book. And of course, Susan G. Komen, died of breast cancer at age 36, and I'm also reading her sister Nancy's book, "Promise Me", as well. The list of well-known breast cancer survivors goes on - Olivia Newton-John, Sheryl Crow, Christina Applegate, Melissa Etheridge, Robin Roberts, Deanna Favre, Amy Mickelson, etc. Here's a candle in memory and in honor of all women who have fought or are still fighting breast cancer. Jennifer fought a good fight. And I have just donated to some breast cancer organizations as I do each October in memory of Jennifer and in honor of my mother and all the strong women out there affected by breast cancer.
