Dear mrs Neville and family, during the fifties I was an artstudent in London and studied stagedesign. It was then, that I saw John Neville for the first time at the Old Vic and of course I fell in love with him, like all the other girls in the auditorium. Or rather half of the girls, for the other half was in love with Richard Burton. Anyway John Neville's performances belong to my most meomrable performances in my life.I became a theatredesigner in Holland and married an actor. He died last year after 52 years of marriage. Ik do hope you will find a lot of strength to overcome your loss. With kindest regards,
Leontien van Beurden

They say at times 'we won't see his likes again' but seeing the students at Oxford these days I suspect he would disagree. Cheerfully, for they have someone to learn from. David Kirke, England.

Dear Caroline and Family -
I read of John's death with a real sadness I have yet to be able to shake. When I was in the Young Company at Stratford, I always held on to John's words as a lifeline to help me navigate through the madness of the Festival juggernaut and I think we all did. His calmness, his reason, his openness and kindness, and his insistence on bestowing grace and dignity to everyone around him will stay with me forever. It was John (I'm pretty certain) who sensed even then my growing unease with stage acting, and gently encouraged me to follow my instincts to playwriting, by recommending me for a Tyrone Guthrie award to do just that. Though we did talk on the phone a few times later on, I bumped into John only two more times after my stint in the Young Company, but each time it was like meeting a good close friend. Perhaps that was his greatest skill as an actor; opening his arms wide to every life around him and ratifying the value of our shared existence. He will be missed Caroline, and by so many people; my thoughts are with you and your family.

I would like to express my condolences to the family during this most difficult time. Please know that soon; The last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing. 1 Corinthians 15:26.
