Joe,
It seems like yesterday you were mentoring me as a freshman at the academy. Thank you for you service and your sacrifice will not be forgotten

Lt. It's been 4 years and it's crazy to think how time has flown but I always keep you in my mind I can't thank you for all the words you spoke to me while we doing our change over at Det3 but I'll never forget you!

This is a 10 minute video, it was taken in Camp Victory in 2010. Posted with permission of the family which I was honored to meet at the Helton Haul today.

I didn't know Joe and I wasn't in his unit. However, I was an Army officer working with Iraqi Security Forces in Mahmudiyah, Iraq from 2009 until 2010. I was actually patrolling in the same area Joe was on that day, but I didn't hear of the incident until I got back to my base. And I have only recently learned that Joe departed that day. I'm not sure who will read this, but I just wanted to let his family know that they're in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Phil

Thinking of you today.

May you rest in peace my old friend. I will always remember the good times we had togather in arms with security forces. I hope we never forget the ultimate sacrifice you gave to help save the Republic.
