Virginia Has Lost One Of Its Greatest Statesmen. My Condolences To His Family, Friends And To The People Of Virginia. He Will Be Truly Missed!
August 01, 2013
My prayers are with the Byrd family for the loss of a true gentleman. I will remember the day he came to my granddaddy's funeral, who was a friend to him-Ralph Dorsey, in Berryville in 1990. That meant alot to my grandmother, Sadie, at the time. The Byrds and Dorseys go back a very long way. The Byrds are a wonderful family to support each other in this time of loss. May Peace be with all.

Sen. Byrd was a friend of my grandfather, Robert Barton, who proudly hailed from Winchester. They shared a love of the Valley, apples, and above all, doing the right thing as they saw it. I am so sorry we've lost him, but celebrate his long life, his love of Virginia and his deep abiding sense of honor.

Senator Byrd exemplified everything that a true Virginian should be. He was a statesman not a politician. He was true gentleman who showed kindness and respect for all. The Commonwealth has lost one of its finest.

May the eternal light shine upon him.....
