Eric J. Challenger 1972—2018
Eric J. Challenger, 45, of Freeport, died Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was born October 18, 1972, in Freeport, IL, the son of Edward and Theresa (Lampo) Challenger. Eric was a Freeport High School graduate. He worked for Rolling Hills Progress Center in Lanark, IL. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He won gold medals in bowling, dancing, and swimming at The Special Olympics. He enjoyed going to dinner with his family every Saturday night after church. Eric is survived by his parents, Edward and Theresa Challenger of Freeport, IL; three brothers, Mark Challenger of Rockford, IL, John Challenger of Colona, IL, and Paul (Melissa) Challenger of Cedarville, IL; nieces and nephew, Cassidy (Brandon), Collin, and Christine; and numerous cousins.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Father Ken Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with a scripture service beginning at 4 p.m.; visitation also from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
