I studied piano with Mary Louise from elementary through high school. Her motto: "Give them lots of love and pieces they like to play" served me well. I went on to a degree in piano performance from the U of I and had a career as a music educator and now direct a community choir. Mary Louise shaped me and I wouldn't be who I am today without her teaching for which I am most grateful.

As Mary Louise's student for many years I so appreciated her knowledge and ability to perform at the piano and organ. She always knew when I hadn't practiced enough, especially those Czerny and Hanon drills! Yet, because of her sweet smile and firm but gentle approach I always wanted to strive to do my very best. Years later after further studying music, I began my own piano teaching business and continue to teach even now. It wasn't just the fine points of technique she so well communicated, but more importantly she had a way of showing how to communicate through the music. The best of her teaching style came through in my approach with my students and for that I will be forever grateful. She was my role model, a dear talented lady and teacher, and many like myself will be forever indebted to her as we sit at the piano and play in her memory today.

Mary Louise was a very sweet and talented organist and pianist who accompanied my father as he played the part of Sir Harry Lauder at the annual Robert Burns Day dinner in Rockford and at other occasions. She will be missed by all who knew her.
