WAYNE DARRYL 'MOON' GENDREAU, 72 SAVANNA - Wayne Darryl "Moon" Gendreau, age 72, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Moon was born on September 26, 1940, the son of Eugene and Anne (Miller) Gendreau in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Moon was raised in Rockford, Illinois and married Mary Ellen Ford on June 22, 1962 in Rockford. Mary died on November 26, 1999 in Savanna. Moon enjoyed sales and traveling across the country on a moment's notice. He operated a gumball and vending machine route in the Rockford area for many years. He and his family moved to Savanna in 1966. Moon sold his vending route and opened a game/recreation room in Savanna, where he had a large coin operated slot car track. In 1971, Moon purchased Blanding's Landing in Hanover, Illinois and in the last few years he changed the name to River Road Escape. Moon loved to cruise around the country and take business road trips with his brother, Steven. He also enjoyed spending time watching people and motorcycles in front of his brother Jerry's tavern, Iron Horse Social Club, Savanna. Moon will be dearly missed by his daughter, Michelle (Dennis) DeBarre of Geneseo, Illinois; two grandchildren, Demi and Alexander DeBarre; and two brothers, Jerry (Vicky) Gendreau of Savanna and Steven (Connie) Gendreau of Sabula. Moon was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 11 to 1 p.m., prior to the service at the Funeral Home. In Moon's memory, memorials may be given to an Alzheimer's or Dementia Charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com

Wow!! The memories of camping at Blandings Landing and spending time visiting with Mary and Moon. I actually worked one summer for Moon at the campground. They were good people. So sorry for your loss.
