Sorry to hear about your Dad, Barb.

MY CONDOLENCES TO THE CASHILL FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF ED. OVER 50 YEARS AGO, IN 1962, I BECAME A MEMBER OF THE MILWAUKEE POLICE DEPARTMENT, ENTERING IT AFTER OBTAINING A DEGREE IN BROADCASTING AND WORKING IN THE BROADCAST INDUSTRY FOR ABOUT SEVEN YEARS.

MY FIRST ASSIGNMENT WAS AT #7 DISTRICT, WHICH IS WHERE I MET ED, WHO I WORKED WITH ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND LEARNED POLICING SKILLS, IN THE REAL WORLD.

BY THE LATE 60'S, THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAD OBTAINED AN EXTREMELY LIMITED AMOUNT OF TV EQUIPMENT--A CAMERA, VIDEO TAPE MACHINE AND THREE MONITORS, PURCHASED FOR SURVEILLANCE, BY THE VICE SQUAD, BUT NOT USED IN AN EFFECTIVE MANNER, AND THE EQUIPMENT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE POLICE ACADEMY, AND I MADE MY PAST "LIFE EXPERIENCES" KNOWN TO THE DEPUTY INSPECTOR OF TRAINING, WHO "BORROWED" ME FROM NUMEROUS ASSIGNMENTS OVER NUMEROUS YEARS, AS I WAS WORKING ON A PROJECT, IN WHICH THERE WAS NO JOB DESCRIPTION TO FILL THE OPENING.

THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE, PURCHASED THE OLD MADONNA HIGH SCHOOL AND EVENTUALLY I WOULD DESIGN, AND CREATE TWO TELEVISION STUDIOS, WITH PLAYBACK FACILITIES AT EACH DISTRICT STATION AND FOUR CHANNELS IN POLICE HEADQUARTERS.

IN 1978, I TOOK MY FAMILY ON A VACATION TO THE LOS ANGELES AREA, AND WE WOULD HAVE A SEVERE WINTER IN MILWAUKEE, ALTHOUGH NOT AS SEVERE, AS THE CURRENT WINTER. I RETURNED TO LOS ANGELES AREA DURING THE SUBSEQUENT SUMMERS OF 1979 & 1980, TO CHECK OUT EMPLOYMENT AND HOUSING COSTS, AND ARRIVED IN LOS ANGELES IN SEPTEMBER 1980, LEAVING MILWAUKEE AFTER 43 WINTERS, TO RE-ENTER AND CONTINUE MY BROADCASTING CAREER, AS A BROADCAST ENGINEER.

I WILL ALWAYS BE A MILWAUKEAN, BUT LIVING IN A MUCH WARMER CLIMATE.

DONALD H. PINSKER, A PROUD FORMER MILWAUKEE POLICE OFFICER FOR 18 YEARS, 1962-1980.

AFTER HAVING OBTAINED SHORT TERM, FULL TIME EMPLOYMENTS WITH NBC-BURBANK, TECHNICOLOR, AND KHJ-TV CHANNEL 9, HOLLYWOOD, FOR THE FIRST YEAR AND A HALF, I ATTAINED A STAFF BROADCAST ENGINEERING POSITION WITH THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK, WEST COAST HEADQUARTERS, HOLLYWOOD, 1982-2005, RETIRED, BUT STILL SINGING THE MUSIC OF SINATRA, TONY BENNETT AND NAT "KING" COLE.
