Dear Vollbrecht Family. My heartfelt sympathies with the passing of John. I grew up on Lancaster and have fond memories of your family, particularly of my friend, Lois. The neighborhood gang had such fun growing up back then...putting on shows every summer for our moms. It almost seems like it was yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of sorrow. Blessings to all of you.

MY CONDOLENCES TO THE VOLLBRECHT FAMILY, WHO I NEVER MET. WHILE READING THE JOURNAL-SENTINEL "ON-LINE", MOMENTS AGO, I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED JOHN'S NAME AS SOMEONE WHO I HAD INTERACTED WITH DURING MY 18 PLUS YEAR CAREER ON THE MILWAUKEE POLICE DEPARTMENT, OVER 35 YEARS AGO, HAVING RESIGNED "IN GOOD STANDING" AND DECIDED THAT 43 WINTERS IN MILWAUKEE, WAS ENOUGH, AFTER HAVING EXPERIENCED SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, DURING A 1978 VACATION, AND THE WINTER OF 78-79, HAVING TO SHOVEL MY ROOF AT MY HOME, WAS THE DECIDING FACTOR. MY BEING A MUSICIAN (TROMBONE), I BELIEVE / RECALL THAT WAS JOHN'S INSTURMENT OF EXPERTISE AND WE WERE BOTH IN THAT SECTION IN THE BAND. AS I RECALL, HE PLAYED FIRST CHAIR, AND LED THAT SECTION. MY HAVING WORKED IN BROADCASTING FOR SEVEN YEARS BEFORE I JOINED THE DEPARTMENT, AND CREATING THE USE OF THE TELEVISION MEDIUM USED ON THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND HAVING DESIGNED, CONSTRUCTED AND MANAGED THAT SECTION SINCE IT'S INCEPTION AT THE THEN "NEW" POLICE ACADEMY ON N. TEUTONIA, THE OLD MADONNA HIGH SCHOOL, ALLOWED ME TO RE-ENTER THAT CAREER PATH AFTER AN ABSENCE OF OVER 18 YEARS. JOHN WAS A GENTLEMAN DURING MY SEVERAL YEARS THAT I PLAYED WITH THE POLICE BAND.
