Ms. Smith: An extremely gifted educator. Rubena especially knew how to and did connect with the "low self esteemed kid" while inspiring all to do/be the best they could be. I am so grateful & appreciative for her wonderful uplifting influence on my life! She was a shining example of what a "teacher/mentor" should/could be. While at Roosevelt 73-76 she motivated me & so many others. In North Division "78/79" she guided me on to the U of WI. Parkside. Rubena was a classmate of my oldest sister in North Division for 6 yrs class of 64. I'm so very proud to have known Rubena & the marvelous stories about: getting her drivers license early (aged 14) to drive her ill mother, Milwaukee - from the black point of view of her generation & time, how North D. was once grades 7-12. Rubena made english class interesting and enjoyable for the "FIRST TIME" in the lives of many "BLACK CHILDREN". Dear family: Thank you for sharing her with us. The world at large needs many, many more educators exactly like her. Gone too soon and she will be missed, but never forgotten. You have my most sincere condolences.

To The Family,
May God give you peace and keep Bennie's Soul in His care . I taught with her at Roosevelt in 1968 school year and we stayed in touch for many years.
