BURPEE, MARK KEVIN
Kalamazoo
Mark passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 8, 2014, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous five year battle with cancer. Age 51. Mark was born in Kalamazoo on March 25, 1962, the son of Rush and Lana (Gabos) Burpee. He graduated from Comstock High School and Spartan College of Aeronautics. He was employed by Simpson Paper Company, before becoming a commercial Airline Pilot for Northwest-Delta. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything to do with being outdoors and around water. He loved to spend time with family and friends on the river at his cottage. He is survived by his wife, Karen (Avent) Burpee; two sons, Seth and Cole Burpee both of Kalamazoo; his parents, Rush and Lana Burpee of Kalamazoo; two step-children, Sarah and Ryan Melbow both of Kalamazoo; three siblings, Rush (Kristen) Burpee, Robin Burpee and Pamela Burpee all of Kalamazoo; and many close nieces and nephews, who adored him. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering celebrating Mark's life will take place from 2 - 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mark's name to the West Michigan Cancer Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
