Doane, Donald L. 10/14/1948 - 10/29/2017 Portage Age 69, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was born in Quincy, IL, the son of the late Donald and Betty (Snow) Doane. Don was a kind, generous and thoughtful man. He loved his family and friends. On October 5, 1968, he married Susan Doane who survives. He was a hard worker who owned and operated the Great River Insurance Company in Quincy for several years. After retiring Don and his wife moved to Kalamazoo to be closer to family. He was a High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kalamazoo where his welcoming smile will be missed. In his youth he was an avid outdoorsman. When not working Don loved to read and help others. Above all he loved his family and leaves them with many wonderful memories to cherish. He is also survived by two sons, Brian Doane, Chris (Wendy) Doane; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Mason, Harley and Caleb; great-grandchild, August; two siblings, David (Lynda) Doane and Rick Doane; nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1112 N. Drake Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49006, a memorial service will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of S.W. Michigan, c/o the funeral home.
