Mom, thinking today of our frequent trips to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC: the first time we stayed at the Inn on Biltmore Estate was shortly after my soon to be finalized divorce; I sold my diamond wedding ring and we enjoyed a 3 day visit with tea service in our room, a mouthwatering buffet BR eakfast each morning, tour of Biltmore house and a carriage ride ( the driver stopped at a picturesque location ) and I remember one of the horses rested his head on my shoulder, I about jumped out of my skin, so unexpected ! We enjoyed other visits browsing the winery, and beautiful gardens and greenhouses. We shopped, we dined, we toured newly opened rooms in the house, and upon departure, packed our complimentary Biltmore alippers, and toiletries. Now the drive from Charleston the LowCountry , to the mountains of NC was an adventure in itself; my car tested unused gears as we drove from flat land to hills and steep inclines and amazing speeds on our return. You especially liked Christmas at Biltmore , all decked out in its holiday lights and ribbons, and the immense indoor Christmas tree. Again, Mom, time spent together making memories that I shall revisit often. Love, Suzanne.

Mom, how could I forget, the many years we signed up and received our race packets for Charleston's Cooper River Bridge Run!!! Oh my, before the new bridge was built and opened we walked the old one; up one section and down another. One year it was especially windy and the bridge began to sway, you grabbed onto me for dear life, the moment passed and we completed the 5k race. Over 10 years we faithfully joined the event; our last year together you waited for me at our designated place, the Holiday Inn newly built and we walked the last "leg" together as we stepped over the finish line and joined many others for the 'after party' and closing events. You walked so fast at times I pushed myself to keep up the pace. Again , fond memories held dear ; and your cardiologist could not believe that you had completed another successful race!! Love you, Mom.

Mom, remembering our many adventures in downtown Charleston: High Tea at Charleston Place Hotel ( you loved the scones with clotted cream and lemon curd ), and the savory tea sandwiches and sweets. And our Cooking classes with Maverick Kitchens; we tasted all featured menu items and you kindly passed your wine samples over to me. And the concerts at Marion Square with our dear friends; plus the fantastic Farmers Market events there as well. Charleston Music Hall was a delight; the show we loved featured our Miss South Carolina 2009 Chyrstal Gattett who we hugged after the performance finale. So many reservations at One Meeting Street Inn near the battery; a lovely historic bed and breakfast, I remember we waved at the carriage tours as they passed by. Let's not forget SNOB/ Slightly North of Broad an open Kitchen resturant, one of your favorites. And when your legs gave out from walking we delighted in riding back to our parking garage in style with Charleston's Black Cab Co. So many memories, so many adventures.
