I was a student in Philosopy at UMKC from 1978-80. I took four courses from Hans, and he was my faculty advisor. My favorite memories were our in-depth discussions of existentialism, particularly the ideas of Kierkegaard and Sartre. Hans was the finest instructor I have encountered in my lifetime, and I miss him dearly. My deepest condolences to the Uffelmann family.

Please accept my late condolences on the death of your wonderful father and grandfather. I just found out about his death & just expected he would live on forever. I was a student of Dr. Uffelmann's from 1965-1968. I took at least 7 of his courses because he taught me more about how to live than anyone before or since. I revered & respected the man. Often we would meet at the greenhouse between classes to talk. He told me once that his boys had tried to burn down the garage at home. He wasn't mad or upset, just shaking his head, grinning & wondering how 2 sons could get into so much mischief. Taught me that he was warm, kind & loving. I still have the letter he sent me on 12-19-2010 updating me on his life. The man was a wonder, a sage, a friend, a teacher, a leader to me. I was privileged to know him. Diana Griffiths, Canton, GA

I was a student of Dr. Uffelmann's in the 80s. His knowledge, humor, wisdom and kindness influenced me not only in my studies, but all through my life. My condolences to the family.

Just saw this and wanted to express my condolences to the Uffelmann family. From a fellow grad student at Northwestern who remembers Hans for his philosophical seriousness and personal good humor....
