Bob and Guyla,
I was so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. Please know my thoughts are with you.

I was very fortunate to have been taught by Mrs. Pickens as well. No one can deny that her style could be overwhelming; however there was never any question as to her expectations. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to gain a better grasp of the written language under her guidance, although I may not always exercise that strength. I am sure that she and my grandmother, Mrs. Martha Armstrong, will have an eternity to sit and share many tales of their teaching years.

Thinking of Mrs. Picken's family and sending prayers and blessings for all!

I was also a student of Mrs. Pickens' at Nevada High School and credit her with my love of the English language. She was a tough, strict teacher, but when you learned from her, you actually LEARNED. I liked her very much and will always remember her fondly. May God bless her family and friends with peace and comforting memories.
