Robert Johnson, formerly of Villa Park and St. Charles, and most recently from Naples, Fla., and Apple Canyon Lake in Illinois, died Tuesday, March 18, in Naples, Fla.
He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Wheaton, where he spent most of his early years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ada (Peterson) Johnson; his wife, Jeanne "Vicki" Madlyn Victor; his son, Robert Philip Johnson; his brothers Herb, Paul, Rey, Gordon and Charles Johnson; and his sister Harriet. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Ann Walsh Johnson; his two children, Gary V. Johnson (Amy Mercer) and Patricia Johnson (Steve) Lord; his five grandchildren, Andrea, Philip, Julie (Ryan), Bobby and Steve; his stepchildren: Ann Marie (Tom) Corvino, Robert (Louise Berezny) Juckniess, Kathleen Juckniess, Patricia (Jamie) Beecher, Daniel (Kate Carlsen) Juckniess, Maureen (Chris) Dvorak and Megan (Mike) Roach; and step-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Paige, Bobby, Keeley, Matthew, Grace, Charlie, Anne Louise, Thomas, Lauren, Abby and Jimmy.
Mr. Johnson served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington in 1949. He was a real estate broker for over 50 years. He owned four real estate offices (Village Realty) in Villa Park, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn and St. Charles, as well as owning and operating a real estate school in St. Charles. He remained active in real estate even toward the end of his life.
Mr. Johnson was a past master of Masonic Lodge 1113 A.F. & A.M. in Villa Park, and a member of the Chicago Medinah Temple, admitted in 1972. He was president of the Villa Park Lions Club, and was also active in the St. Charles Lions Club. He showed his love for others by volunteering his musical talents playing the banjo and mandolin with the Bunkhouse Boys, a country and western band he formed with some close friends. The band played for nonprofit organizations, fundraisers, and political functions; but his favorite was playing for blind veterans at the Wheaton VFW Hall for decades.
There will be a celebration of Mr. Johnson's life from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in Naples, Fla., at the Berkshire Lakes Clubhouse, and from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in Wheaton at the Wheaton VFW.
Donations may be made to BLLC-HH, an organization dedicated to helping needy, homeless children in Naples, 243 Melrose Place, Naples, FL 34104.
