Dear Peter,
I grew up knowing a bit about you from Miss Ida May Wilkinson who came from your home in New York to Franklin, Virginia, each summer to visit her mother, brother, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew who were my family's next-door neighbors.

While Miss Ida May didn't really "talk" about you and certainly not about your parents, she would sometimes share the title of a special book or a recipe that "my young friend Peter" liked. I was in college before my mother explained to me that Peter was you!

Along with the rest of the world, I was a great admirer of your mother, so much so that for my 50th birthday, my wife treated me to a trip to New York to see your mother and Mr. Charles Durning in GIN GAME. We sat on the front row--enthralled. I also saw your mother and Morgan Freeman in Baltimore in DRIVING MISS DAISY--only two chairs and two great actors creating magic on a stage.

My wife Deborah and I (now retired 40-years-apiece-veterans of high school English classrooms) are forever indebted to your mother, for she brought Miss Dickinson to life for us and for our students on film year after year.

Thank you for sharing your mother with the world. I send you my sincerest sympathy.
