While I did not have the honor of knowing or serving with Carl, he is a navy and submarine brother. Thank you for your service to your country sir, and now sailor you have the eternal fair winds and following seas you so richly earned in this life. We send our condolences to his entire family.

I was sad when I heard of Carl's death, but I know for him it must have been a joyful passing. Carl deeply loved his family and sorely missed Hazel these last years. He was an immensely proud grandfather and enjoyed sharing in his children and grandchildren's great accomplishments. Nothing was more important to him on this earth than his family.

Carl was a founding member of New Hope Church, and while he was unable to participate during the last year, we never forgot his early support and faithful encouragement. I can't even count the number of trips we made in his big white truck to Sam's club to buy chairs, tables, cups etc. for the new church!
Carl was a man of solid character and abiding commitment to doing what was right even when it was unpopular, and this is something I will never forget. He was a committed Christian whose actions reflected his words.

I will miss our visits, breakfast at Bob Evans, and the wonderful stories of a life lived on a global scale. Carl was an immensely accomplished man who lived in a humble way, and I am sure he has taken many stories and secrets with him.

Carl is now with Hazel, and they are probably talking about baseball and the kids, and that makes me smile.

Rest in Christ, Carl.
We will miss you.

On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI) and to Gary (Diane), Donna (Richard), John, Rodney (Anne), and all of Carl's family and friends, we offer our sincere condolences in this time of loss and mourning. Our prayer is that God will bless you with peace, comfort you, and heal your broken hearts. We are especially thankful for Carl's service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service. To our “Brother of the Phin” we say … "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."

So, heavenly Father add his name to the roll
Of our departed shipmates still on patrol.
Let them know that we who survive
Will always keep their memories alive.

Bless those who serve beneath the deep,
Through lonely hours their vigil keep.
May peace their mission ever be!
Protect each one, we ask of Thee.

Bless those at home who wait and pray
For their return by night and day.

Carl E. Wells, US Navy, Now on Eternal Patrol.
Fair Winds and Following Seas Shipmate
His record is now posted online in the Eternal Patrol file on the USSVI website.
