The team issued a statement via its official Facebook account:
"There are no accurate words to express what we need to. We are absolutely shattered to say that we lost our friend and band mate Kevin Garcia early this afternoon. He succumbed to the effects of a massive stroke. "We were all able to say goodbye to him and he was surrounded by his closest friends and family here in Modesto."

Garcia, who was born June 22, 1975, started playing with Grandaddy as a teenager. The band formed in 1992 and released four studio albums before disbanding in 2006.
Grandaddy re-formed in 2012. The bandmates have since made a number of live appearances.
The band's acclaimed fifth studio album, "Last Place," was released in March 2017, more than a decade since their last.
"He was an actual angel. He navigated life with a grace, a generosity and a kindness that was utterly unique. And contagious. He is loved so deeply by so many," the band wrote in the Facebook post.
He is survived by his wife, Sondra; two children, Jayden and Gavin; his grandmother Joan; his parents, Randy and Barbara; and two brothers, Craig and Jeff.
"We'll have more to say in the days ahead," the band wrote, concluding the post. "Right now the four of us are grieving together. With great sadness and love, Grandaddy"
A fundraising page has been set up at gofundme.com to help defray medical and funeral expenses of the Garcia family. As of early Wednesday, more than $10,000 had been raised from more than 250 donors in 18 hours, according to the website.
