Some of my earliest memories were seeing your lawn signs up in Brighton in the early 70s. Then in the early 90s I was a BU student and you taught the class before mine in the same classroom. I looked at you and asked, you look familiar, do I know you? Then the last 10 years would see at various campaign events for your daughter and Steve Murphy, both of whom i proudly voted for, and you were with your friend who used to be Mass. Secretary of State. You were truly one of the really good guys and left a good mark on this city, left it in a better place than before you came.

To Kathryn and family,
Kevin White gave me one of the best jobs I ever had - to help build the City of Boston and my neighborhood of Chinatown as a catalyst and founder of several organizations such as the South Cove Community Health Center and the Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center . My condolences to the family.

Aside from his many accomplishments as mayor, Kevin had a very humane side in which he demonstrated a warmth of human kindness and character in dealing with the problems of some of the less fortunate and always showing them proper respect much to his credit.

As a 12 year old my brother and I used to go into Boston on the MBTA from the suburbs to spend the day at Community Boating and once or twice over the course of the summer, we would wander, unannounced, up to Mayor White's office in Government Center. He always welcomed our sporadic visits and would take 15 minutes out of his day to talk with us about the city and growing up. inevitably we would be ushered out by the mayor's aides who probably feared that Kevin would give us the best part of the day... Later I attended the same high school (Tabor Academy)as he did and I always believed he stood for everything that could be good about Boston. not until I read the Pulitzer Prize winning book "Common Ground" by J. Anthony Lukas did I realize what a difference one man made in a racially torn city.

God Bless and Rest in Peace Mr. Mayor...
