I have only found out of this tragic news, 8/Nov 2013.As a busy mum I found sanctuary in her stories. From New Zealand, she gave me great joy. Thank God for this gift. Rest easy.
I find the death of my dear friend so very sad. I will miss her and her wealth of work that she left so lovingly behind. Now, she is experiencing other settings and greater stories to tell and write about. Perhaps Mrs. Binchy, knew better than we. I pray she will have many novels ready for all her fans, when we too cross the bar. I know she will smile and put on a pot of tea as only she can do. God bless you and keep you always writing. We'll be there only too soon to read the next best seller. You will be truly missed by all who loved you or had ever had the opportunity to read any of your books. God Bless You until we meet again...
What a rich legacy that she left us. Her writings will be missed.
I came upon Mauve's books many, many years ago, read each one and kept them all. As soon as I finished one, I'd eagerly (and impatiently) look forward to the next one. They were so hard to put down; you were sad when you came to each one's final page. I haven't read her final book yet - so what a treat that will be! When I learned of her passing last year, I was so very, very sad; she was one of the best. She always touched you with her characters, making them so real - you felt you almost knew them! . I was born in England; leaving for Canada as a young girl, a few years after WW II. However, the way Mauve wrote about village life and its people, brought village life so vividly back to me. So thank you, Mauve, for my reading pleasure; my deepest sympathy goes to Gordon and the family. I wish I had had the chance to meet her to say, in person, a heartfelt thank you for sharing her writing talents with the world.

I only just found out while watching Jeopardy last night. I am still in shock. I love her books, her character development was superb. She will be much missed. 1/20/13 Kathy of Santa Barbara.
Have every book she wrote..i will miss her terribly as as a writer and have lost a gift from Ireland. Reading her books always made me feel good. Miss Maeve u are loved by so many, you will never know what a gift u gave the world
Her passing is sad news for those, like me, who love her stories. She will be greatly missed. May God rest her soul in Christ Jesus, our Savior and Lord.
I've loved Ms. Binchy's work since I read Light a Penny Candle and then I had to read all of her works. Her books have a shelf unto themselves, and NOTHING else goes on that shelf.I went to Dalkey, Ireland in 2001 and that day she was in Dublin but I was honored to meet her husband and publisher at Finnegan's.The next year I met her at Finnegan's and she was so gracious to this crass American who interrupted her business lunch with her husband and her publisher to talk to me about her upcoming work. She asked my son's name, who took a picture of me with her, and made me feel as though I was a friend, as I always do when I read her work.Rest in Peace my precious Ms Binchy, and may St. Peter say Fáilte go Neamh.God bless you Mr. Snell and Joan, and I'm sorry for your troubles.
The first book of Maeve's was Quentins. I had to read them all. I will miss her stories and her storytelling. Sleep well.
Linda Smith (Indianapolis, IN)
I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Maeve Binchy. She was my favourite author. My favourite book of hers was "The Glass Lake". I read this when I was going through a divorce and had had an affair even though I am not really a bad person and could really identify with the character and her regrets. I love the way her characters had a bad side and a good side rather than being one sided. I will miss checking at the library every time to see if there was a new novel. Her novels did add pleasure to many holidays and quiet evenings at home. Rest in peace. We are thankful for what you gave us.
Sleep Well Maeve ...
May you rest in peace
You gave a place of solace, interest and sometimes laughter when times were tough.
A friend at work introduced me to Maeve's books and I was hooked from then on. Her writing is so descriptive she makes you feel as though you are right there in that moment, at that time. I am saddened to hear of her passing, my heart goes out to her family, friends and of course all of her loyal readers. I will cherish every word read!
YOUR IDEAS LIVE ON!
Maeve the thinker!
Maeve the writer!

As the flame of this candle shines on, so will your ideas live on in the minds of generations to come through your writings. Requiescat in pace. Amen.
May the face of the Most High God shine upon thee ... and may He grant thee eternal repose. Amen. Though you are gone, you will live on in the heart of posterity through your seasoned articles and books.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
May her noble soul be at the right hand of God.
Rest in peace, Maeve.

Hi I was so sad to hear about Maeve's passing. She was my teacher in Zion Schools and taught me French, which has now come in handy as my daughter in law is French and my grandchildren also speak. So I am forever in her debt. I did mean to get in touch many times, as I met her years ago, also , on a flight I was hijacked on (Aer Lingus) and she wrote an article quoting me.
Gordon, and Maeve's brother ( I have forgotton your nane. apologies for that. But I am so sad to hear of her passing and I as like the rest of the class in Zion Schools, (some of us are still in touch, 45 years on), we wish you " Long Life" as we say in the Jewish faith. Keep well, Hinda Bloom

And thank you for all of it xxx
I loved reading her books. Sorry to read that she has passed.
The power of Sister Maeve's work lies in the reality that every large city is comprised of communities, not at all unlike the scattered rural hamlets, where the residents have common struggles despite differing circumstances. She nails the commonality better than most.
My mother and I have enjoyed reading her books for years. We were so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful author! Our hearts go out to her family in their loss.
May the God who supplies endurance and comfort”… sustain you in your time of need through prayer, the comfort of fellow believers, and his Word the Bible.–Ro 15:5.

With a kind and wise heart, she put it all in perspective and you finished her books refreshed, renewed and with a new sense of the good rhythm of life. Her clarity made you believe that the world could be fixed with the right attitude one small problem at a time. Her narrative voice was pure and loving. And I feel her passing as if I had lost a close friend.

Loved each and every story. There will not be another to walk in her shoes. Books to be treasured.
May you rest in peace, Maeve. You have given pleasure to so many of us, and I will always remember reading your wonderful books.

I AM AN AVID READER AND LOVE MAEVE BINCHY'S BOOKS. I AM OF IRISH DESCENT AND THAT MAKES THEM MORE SPECIAL. I READ HER BOOKS MORE THAN ONCE, WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR ME. HER ABILITY TO TAKE ME TO ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE AND MEET NEW PEOPLE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED!
Maeve Binchy's depiction of Irish lives and people inspired me to travel to Ireland twice, and I hope to go again. She was spot on in her portrayals of the warmth of the people and the beauty of the countryside and I marveled at her powers of description. It is time to start rereading all she left us. Deepest condolences to her family and God speed. Anita Price

I will "Light a Penny Candle"...the book that started the journey for me.
Maeve's books were my treasured "go to" books! Many times I would re-read her books rather than purchase a book by a different author! Her characters always made me feel as though I could have been part of their "Circle of Friends". Reading and re-reading her books led me to discover and fall in love with Ireland! Rest in peace Maeve.

In memory of MAEVE BINCHY
Thank you, Ms. Binchy, for all the hours of joy your books gave my Mother. Whenever I was at a loss of what to get her, for any occasion, I'd just order a bunch of your paperbacks from Amazon. Gave her much enjoyment, and then she'd tell me, over a morning coffe, all about the story she was reading at the time. May your loved ones find comfort, knowing you've given much joy to your readers, and made the world a happier place for having used your talents to the fullest.
Most truly I say to you. The hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed, will live.
She wrote with such humanity. She will be missed.
All her fans will miss the heart and soul she shared with us through her books. We thank her for all she gave us.
