MARQUIS, GLORIA NELSON ("GLO") - age 64, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a longtime member of St. John's Cathedral, and a graduate of Webb School of Knoxville and Emory University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After graduating from college, she worked in Washington, DC, for several years as a legislative assistant. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and John MacDonald; mother, Gloria K. Nelson; brother, William A. Nelson, V; granddaughters, Caroline and Rosie MacDonald; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. William A. Nelson, IV; and her grandparents. Glo was an avid gardener, having received her master gardener designation, and was a member of the Mary Grainger Blount Garden Society. She enjoyed traveling, her book club, and weekly Bible study group. She was an active member of her church and completed the Education for Ministry program. She was involved in many civic organizations including Junior League, the Bijou Theater board, Knoxville Ballet board, and chaired the Heart Gala. By far her greatest love in recent years was spending time with her beloved granddaughters. The family would like to thank Dr. David Rankin, Dr. Monica Crane, Rhonda Wade, Traci Franklin, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of UT Medical Center for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cole Neuroscience Center at University of Tennessee Medical Center, 1924 Alcoa Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920, St. John's Cathedral Endowment Fund, 413 Cumberland Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37902-2302, or the charity of your choice. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 22, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. The celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, at St. John's Cathedral, officiated by the Very Reverend John C. Ross, Dean, the Reverend Canon Thomas J.
