PHILLIP SCHUETZ Obituary

SCHUETZ, PHILLIP WILLIAM - 63, passed away on August 10, 2013. Phil was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, to the late Lillian and Glenn Schuetz on March 26, 1950. Growing up in Western Springs, Illinois, he graduated from Lyons Township HS in 1968, and then received his BS and MS in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois. Phil married his high school sweetheart, Wendy, and then joined Bechtel Power Corp. and moved to San Francisco to start his career. Together they moved around the country with Bechtel and landed in Knoxville in 2008 where Phil was the UPF Project Manager at Y-12. Phil was a true "cheerleader" everywhere he went. Those who knew Phil or who came in contact with him always felt and saw the genuine love and compassion he had for his family, friends, co workers and his work. Phil was always a "good" guy filled with fun, kindness, hard work and a good smile - he enjoyed life and helping others. While working in Mississippi in 2005 placing Hurricane Katrina victims into trailers, he began "Pink Thursdays" - raising money and awareness for those walking for the Cure. He continued those Thursdays wherever he worked, and when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer his co-workers added purple making it "Pink and Purple Thursdays"! Over the years, Phil has helped make communities better by working with Boys and Girls Club, helping to raise money for cancer, never hesitating to pitch in no matter how menial the task; he also loved traveling, boating, the outdoors, but his most loved experiences were the time spent with Andrew and Wendy - family was most important! Heroes are kisses blown to us by angels, and he was a hero to many. Phil will now be blowing those kisses. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Louder Schuetz, of 41 years; son, Andrew Schuetz; sister, Gwen Zeiter (Bill); brothers, Jeffrey Schuetz (Phyllis) and Glenn Jr.; brother-in-law, Hal Louder Jr. (Joan); and father-in-law, Harold Louder, Sr; ten nieces and nephews; and eleven great nieces and nephews. Phil was so thankful to all his family, friends, co-workers, UT Cancer Institute and UT Hospice who all supported him through his journey. Thank you to Bechtel. A celebration of Phil's life will be held September 28. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to University of Tennessee Cancer Institute or University of Tennessee Hospice.

Not sure what to say?

Even though I lost contact with Phil after high school I remember him as a fun and friend to be around - always bringing people up. We played football at Lyons together. I also can not forget his love for Wendy. What a beautiful couple

Wendy and Andrew thank you for a wonderful life celebration that you had for Phil last night. I know he was looking down on all of us last night. He was such a good husband and father to both of you, and such a wonderful friend to both of us. He will never be forgotten and always be remembered for his smile and all his enthusiasm for life. Dennis and I are going to try to walk in his shoes and remember to keep a "smile" on our faces everyday! I know we will all meet again someday. If you or Andrew ever need anything....you know we will both be there for both of you.

Our paths crossed during the '90 at SRS when we both worked in Design Engineering. I will always remember his enthusiasm for every task that came his way. I Also remember that he made staff meeting almost bearable with his banter and off the cuff remarks. Windy, your partner was one of a kind and you have a life time of
memories. May God bless you.

Oh Wendy my heart goes out to you during this time. I know it was a long road. Your obituary was beautiful and so positive. I don't think I ever saw Phil without a smile on his face which means he had a happy life which you can be consoled by. I got chills as I read the obituary especially since I had no idea that Phil had passed away. Prayers to you, Andrew and your family.
