Ted F. Hathaway, age 88, of DeMotte, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village in DeMotte, with his family by his side.
Ted was born April 20, 1929, in North Manchester, Indiana. He is the son of Paul and Oma (Fisher) Hathaway. Ted served from 1947 to 1949 in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan, followed by a 32-year career with General Motors Acceptance Corporation, and 10 years with the GM Factory Auction Group. He spent many years as an active member of the Merrillville United Methodist Church and served the community on the Merrillville Town Council. He was a member of the First Church of Wheatfield, IN. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, was a golfer, and an avid lover of boating and fishing. He also volunteered with the Mobility Worldwide Personal Energy Transportation (P.E.T.) cart project, building three-wheeled, hand-cranked wheelchairs for victims of polio and land mines.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Marian (Belstra-DiCogno) Hathaway; children: Chris (Jo) Hathaway of Lewisville, Texas; Deborah Hathaway-Stephens of Merrillville, Indiana; Cassandra Hathaway of Chicago; grandchildren: Jeremie Stephens, Christopher Hathaway, Stephanie Hathaway, Courtney (Louis) Aguilera; great grandchildren: Myla and Brooklyn Aguilera; sister: Shirley Glade of North Manchester, Indiana; many other loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, first wife: Oneta (Frye) Hathaway, brother, Max Hathaway, and sister Betty E. Hathaway M.D.
Friends may call at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte on Friday, May 12, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Church of Wheatfield at 10:00 a.m. on May 13, 2017, with Pastor John Hill officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana. Memorials may be made to Mobility Ministries (P.E.T.) or World Bible League.

I am so sorry for your losss. Ted made this world a better place and will be remembered as a man with a giving heart and a winning smile. He also made GMAC a fun work place. May God bless all of you during these sad times

We are extremely saddened to hear that Ted passed away. Worked with him for many years at GMAC and then at the GM auction. Remembering many great times. Ted was a good friend to many people. Our sincerest and deepest sympathy to Marian and all his children.
