The vacations we didn't yet take with you and Elena, the trips to the ranch, the fishing trips you and Tony had planned, the go to guy who always seemed to have the answers are missing from our lives. We'll always have you in our hearts, dear friend. Elena, thank you for bringing Charles into our lives. We stand with you as we mourn the loss and will forever be here for you.
Knowing Charles through the many years has been wonderful. I will hold those memories close and think of him often.
How do relate in a paragraph or two the impact Charles had on my life. Wait for the book. I was blessed to have for a decade in my formative years the best best friend. In Omaha we did mischief, we did foolish, and once in a while we did something good and/or nice. At 17 we spent a week in Chicago on $100 each. Afternoon at the Cubs games, followed by free dinner with a prayer at the city mission, then down half a block to the burlesque, for entertainment, sleep where we could.
On a spring break we drove to Minneapolis to see one girl. When she received us with little enthusiasm we drove to Oklahoma City straight thru to see another. Same results.
In Boston we vied for the affections of a gal we met in Harvard Square. Charles may have wished that I had for once bested him, when later they got divorced.
Jeanne may remember us playing detective in Washington D.C.
When Charles was at Oregon State and I was on my way overseas we roamed Portland hills and Mt Hood together which led me to choose Portland to raise my family.
We did a lot of silly and stupid things, but I am crying now, thinking how blessed I was to have had the best best friend ever. Dang.
Wonderful memories of days at BHS with Charlie. My condolences to Elena and family.
An irreplaceable element has been taken from our group. We won't ever see another Charles Pilcher. I loved his dry, subtle sense of humor. He was a peaceful, relaxing person to be with who fit into our diverse little group wonderfully. I'm sure he was equally comfortable in different circumstances, too; he seemed to be that kind of guy. And if not for Charles we would never have had the pleasure of knowing Elena, which would have been our loss. So, good-bye Charles. Whenever any of your friends get together you will be remembered.
I am going to miss Charles. He was a pleasure to be around.
You will be missed, Uncle Charlie! Your easy laugh and your dry sense of humor will always be a part of my favorite childhood memories.
Though it had been many years since college, it was so easy to reconnect with you and become friends with Elena. We shared crazy times and made new memories while reliving the old ones. I will miss you, friend, as everyone who knew you will. We won't forget you - we'll keep those home fires burning!
Dear Elena:We have you in our prayers and know with confidence that GOD will comfort and keep you.Much love,Geri and Monty

Charles you have been my best friend for over 40 years. We've had so many good times together. You were the one person I could always trust to be there for me. I've just begun to miss you. The hole in my life is so large. You live in my heart. Of course my sincerest condolences to Elana and your family.
What a loss. Charles was one of the most genuinely nice people I ever met or worked with. A class act, and a good friend. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
What an honor to have Charles as a friend for over 50 years. So many great memories from college days, annual trips all over the country, and our last visit together earlier this year, hosting Bobbi and I in your home and touring us to the local sights. We'll miss you terribly.
I met Charles in 1985 while working on an architecture and planning project. We've worked together professionally since then. However, I will always remember and miss him as a good friend and really good company for a quick happy hour and then dinner out. I enjoyed many such evenings with Charles, and sometimes with a larger group. While the excuse was to talk about some project or business opportunity, I much more enjoyed just the opportunity for an evening out with Charles.
Charles, Charlie, Pilcher. Made me laugh harder than anyone I knew. I loved our travels together. I loved our reunions. I loved hunting for the perfect apple pie. But most of all I loved how you humbled me to be around you and Elena. Your sweetness and calm and absolute kindness raised the bar for so many of us. Have a good giggle up there, and save some zingers for when we all catch up and continue our reunions. Say hi to Weaver.
Oh Charles.. what a great friend -- for over 30 years! Happy that we had a wonderful afternoon with Charles and Elena this past year in Laguna. I will miss Charles so much. Elena - our sympathy.
