him Johnny and Edgar were southeast Houston guys at one time living on Colgate St. with the Helms family. Johnny worked at Big Humpfries pizza and Edgar worked at Langs Pharmacy on Park Place. He used to do a lot of shows at Liberty Hall downtown. He would have the likes of Lightnin' Hopkins, Jimmy Reed, Dusty Hill along with a band beating hell to keep up with him. There was a show one weekend with the New Riders of the Purple Sage and Johnny got on the stage and he and Bob Weir tore the place up. Jerry Garcia went to sleep.

He is and will be missed by those who got to hang with him.

Adios Johnny

Became a huge fan in the very early 70's after discovering the Johnny Winter And Live album. Saw Johnny in 1973 at Madison Square Garden, my first concert and still one of the greatest nights I have ever spent listening to music. You will be missed, thank you John Dawson Winter III

When I first met you my lead guitarist was so struck that he told you "wow Johnny Winter this is like meeting God!" And you replied "man I'm just a regular country boy, just like you" And I said yea, a regular country boy that plays like a god! We all laughed a hardy laugh. Keep up your chops Johnny, I am sure we will be seeing each other.

Dear Johnny,
I remember seeing your picture on a poster in a record shop in the early 1970s. I heard your music and I thought you were way too advanced for a kid like me. Several decades later I finally was able to appreciate the blues and your role in it. I was so glad to have had the opportunity to see you at the Calabogie Blues Festival in August 2013. I brought my teenage son and we waited for hours in the first row so we could get as close as possible. What a thrill it was to see you perform live. I have about twenty of your albums and enjoy spreading your blues gospel to many of the people that I meet. We'll miss you Johnny, but we'll never forget you. You were one of a kind. Thanks for all the great music. Rest in Peace, but don't put that guitar down. See you soon. Andrew K. (Ottawa)

My sincere condolences to Johnny's wife and family. Words cannot describe the way his playing and singing would make me cry, laugh, scream, and howl. There are many greats out there but He is my favorite. Saw him live at the Palace Theater in Albany N.Y. in 1976 with Muddy Waters and the James Cotton Band and will never forget the Mojo I felt from them.
May His music make me soar till the end of my days.
