Dr Maloney was my savior. It was he that gave me the chance to go to medical school at the U of MN starting in 1956 - I was the last admitted that year. I Trained at the Mass General and I returned to run a clinic at the U of MN as a volunteer.
Thank you Dr Maloney you have made my life so much better in every way. John Larkin
With all of your incredible intellectual, professional, both as a physician and medical leader, and incredible spiritual depth, you are to me, just plain Bill. With your marvelous wife, Orienne, founder of a powerful movement, Human Dimensions in Medical Education, the two of you walked the corridors of the powerful medical institutions of our nation, sharing the kind, gentle, insightful message of a humanistic approach to medicine. You Bill lived the life of personal authenticity and transparency a big key to patient care, because that was you naturally. The incredible gift to create an aura of love and support, even in very trying situations. It was difficult, even for the hardened to dismiss the message, because your soul said it all. I was blessed to be there, mostly in the Washington D.C. time, where I would watch the positioned powerful listen with rapt attention as you spoke, firmly, but gently. Your authenticity always carried your values, and our world is better for that. This is clear now, in how many institutions state the goal of patient centered care. If many more had your gentle guidance, they not only could talk it, they could walk it. Looking forward to a good laugh together in the next plane we live on. Keep a cool one for me. Love, Terry Van Orshoven
Bill always made everyone around him feel smarter, more interesting, and more at peace. He was the best of the best! I send Orienne lots of love. You were a fabulous couple and always lots of fun to be with. I hope that you can feel his love and still hear his laughter. Lots and lots of love!
Bill, you are one of my teachers in the Classroom of Life. You have thought me love, compassion and patience. I also think about you when I am golfing. Walking with you at Torrey Pines Golf course was very special to me. Love you and Orienne forever.
How lucky I am to have been there the very night we first met Bill.....darn, but Orienne was there, too. :-) We were both fortunate to have spent time and shared space on this earth with this man who illuminated everything he touched. And he did give the very best hugs! We love you, Bill and you will live in my heart forever.
Bill was without a doubt an extraordinary man who lived and loved passionately. His legacy will continue for years to come. He made a difference in so many lives.
"When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." – Kahlil Gibran
Bill, I shall truly miss you. Frank and I valued our time together with you and Orienne. Good friends are a real treasure. My deepest sympathy to Orienne and her family. Love, EVELYN
Bill's goodness, grace and gentility glow with Light. Together, Orienne, his joy and Bill, her gentleness light up our universe and those yet unseen. Such intimacy makes "enchanted evenings"beyond time and place. All my love, S
