It was following the sad loss of my godmother, Elspeth that I met Tom who very much carried on the kindness and thoughtfulness I was lucky enough to receive from Elspeth.

Whilst many of our visits to see Tom were en route to my Grandparents in Cumbria or short trips when I was at University in Manchester, they were always more than a stop-off. I loved hearing about his fascinating life and far flung trips we were always so amazed he continued to make.

Tom was also so thoughtful remembering birthdays and congratulating exam results with long written cards I was so pleased to receive.

I will remember Tom's kindness and warmth, and aspire to the independence and sharpness he had when I knew him. My sympathies to Chris, his family and Tom's friends and I will be raising a glass to Tom privately as you all celebrate his life on Thursday up in Lancaster.

When I worked at White Cross, Everyone had the greatest respect for Tom Pye. A thorough gentleman and an excellent boss.
